WINTER
BLUES
This artwork was part of a swap in which I did the cover and the last two spreads
in a book belonging to Brenda Renoulf. No restrictions, except
the title suggested the theme, and of course it had to be blue... I am very
grateful to Bren for permitting me to do the covers, as this is very
much a NO-NO in swaps.

The cover was done with liberal and heavy-handed amounts of gesso
over Bren's original placement of letters (torn mulberry papers) so that I
enhanced and completed the cover, rather than alter Bren's original vision. I
then dribbled on copious amounts of Diamond Glaze to suggest ice, and threw on
transparent iridescent glitter and punched confetti.
More confetti, Diamond Glaze & glitter on the pages... The
right-hand page of the first spread (turned over to be the left-hand page of the
second spread) has a hole torn out, with fibres making a spider web. The
backgrounds to the pages: gesso & napkin tissue! Single layers, applied over PVA
and then more PVA over the top. Over this, even more gesso...
A torn pocket holds a little double-sided ATC - with German
Scrap on the edges. I used PSX stickers as the images were exactly what I
was looking for (and which were in fact pink & grey) and tinted these down to
blue with pigment ink. Once dry, I tinted the scrap silver, flooded the entire
surface with Diamond Glaze then threw on various glitters until I achieved the
effect I wanted.
