THY SERVANT A DOG

(As told by Boots, and edited by Rudyard Kipling).

This book was actually my very first altered book (2002) and part of a Round Robin (where a group of people do work in each other's books) so was a perfect way to get my feet wet, as it were, and also see first hand how other artists work in this exciting medium.

By me

I found this funny little book in one of those strange, magical little shops - not quite an antiques shop, and not really bric-a-brac or a junk shop, just a mysterious little shop in Richmond-upon-Thames, near London.

This story is told by the dog, Boots (a Scottie), and edited by Rudyard Kipling. The first edition was in October 1930 - my edition was the 7th reprint, in December 1930 - this book must have literally FLOWN off the shelves! I secretly think that Rudyard Kipling wrote it himself, as in the '30s Scottie dogs didn't own typewriters... the original artwork is by G L Stampa.

Of course I read the whole book first, and had a tear in my eye when Boots described the death of his friend, Ravager, a Fox Hound.
